I started learning music at the age of 3 years, my mother being the first teacher. Later, when 5, I started learning Hindusthani Classical Music under the supervision of Shri Tushar Roy Mahashay. However, my first Rabindrasangeet guru was Shri Nanak Chattopadhyay Mahashay. I was taught Hindusthani Classical and Najrulgeeti by Shrimati Amita Dasgupta Mahashaya. In parallel to this, I started learning Bengali Ragpradhan songs from Shri Shivabrata Sarkar Mahashay. Thereafter, my rabindrasangeet guru was Shrimati Padmini Dasgupta Mahashaya. I continue to be a disciple of her. Later on, I became a Hindusthani Classical student of Shrimati Indrani Dasgupta and in parallel, a Rabindrasangeet student of Shrimati Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta Mahashaya. Till date, Shrimati Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta Mahashaya continues to teach me.
Shri Hari Prasad Roy Mahashay, my father, was keen to teach me tabla form my very childhood. In 2006, I was adjudged first position in the Rabindra-sangeet competition arranged by Rajya Sangeet Academy, West Bengal and hence, I received the honor to take the stage in 'Bangla Sangeet Mela, 2007.
